Venès vèire dins l’estable Aquéu bèl enfant qu’es na ; Vous sarès tous estouna : N’i’a rèn de plus amirable. Es d’uno doublo naturo, Fiéu de l’ome, Fiéu de Diéu ; Es miracle quand es viéu, Après lei mau qu’éu enduro. Certos, iéu vous pode dire Que l’ai jamai vist ploura, Ni gémi, ni souspira ; Mai bèn souvent l’ai vist rire. Jóusè lou pren, lou caresso, E lou sarro entre sei bras : N’en sara pas jamai las, Belèu mourra de tendresso. Sa maire, la bono Damo, Li dis cènt milo douçour : « Jèsu, moun cor, moun amour, Vous sias lou rèi de moun amo ! » De joio touto ravido, Li parlo d’un toun pu fort : « Vous ame coume moun cor, Vous ame mai que ma vido ! » Jóusèt e la Vierge Maire Nous ensignoun la leiçoun, E nous mostron la façoun De tout ce que devèn faire.

Notes

This nouvè invites the faithful to come contemplate the Infant Jesus in the stable, dwelling on his dual nature as man and God. It goes on to describe the tenderness of Saint Joseph, who holds him in his arms, and the overflowing love of the Virgin Mary for her son. Published in 1673 in Nicolas Saboly's seventh booklet of noëls, the text closes on the moral lesson given by Joseph and Mary through their example.
