Notes

This nouvè calls shepherds and shepherdesses to hurry to the ruined stable where the Virgin has just given birth on a little hay, stressing at each verse, through the word pecaire (poor thing), the poverty and destitution of the scene. The shepherdesses then busy themselves comforting the crying Child, gathering straw and wood for the fire, changing his swaddling. Published in 1673 in Nicolas Saboly's seventh booklet of noëls.
