Notes
This nouvè describes shepherds joyfully preparing to join the newborn Child, filling their satchels with bread and roast meat, while shepherdesses bring cloth and swaddling to wrap him. The last two verses show the domestic intimacy of the Nativity: the Child crying and nursing like any infant, then the Virgin rocking him and singing words of tenderness. Published in 1671 in Nicolas Saboly's fifth booklet of noëls.
