Notes
This entry brings together two distinct songs on the same page. The first, a Passion lament, stages the dialogue between Jesus on the cross and his mother who comes to bring him drink, then lists the wonders accompanying his death, bells, birds and the river losing their voice, sun and moon darkened, the trembling earth and the risen dead. The second, titled by Arbaud 'Chants joyoux', is an Easter hymn punctuated by the refrain Alleluia, following the gospel account of the resurrection from the holy women at the empty tomb to the appearance to Mary Magdalene and then to the apostles. Arbaud notes that the second part of the hymn faithfully translates the Gospel of Saint John.
