Notes

This old nouvè calls out shepherds, named one by one, to come see the divine light shining from the poor cabin where God was born. Long attributed to Nicolas Saboly, it is in fact, according to the most recent research, the work of a certain frère Sérapion of the 17th century. Frédéric Mistral composed his 1867 Provençal anthem Coupo Santo to this carol's tune, dedicating it to Félix Gras, and the song became the anthem of the Félibrige.
