Notes

This comic nouvè uses the concatenation device (each verse repeating the last line of the one before) to describe a frightening encounter with the devil near the manger, listing his monstrous attributes one by one: horns, a flat head, donkey's ears, forked feet. An angel eventually seizes the demon by the horns and sends him back to the grave, and the last verse playfully closes the tale by announcing the end of vespers and of the noëls. Published in 1673 in Nicolas Saboly's seventh booklet.
