Literal translation
to celebrate Easter before Palm Sunday
Meaning
to have sexual relations before marriage
Explanation
Said of a couple in a hurry, when the bride-to-be turned out pregnant before the wedding, a matter that once caused real scandal. The image plays on the liturgical calendar : celebrating Easter before Palm Sunday reverses the natural order of things, just as consummating a marriage before the ceremony does.
