Said of a child receiving a scolding: "When I get home, I'm going to get shouted at". In Provençal, crida ("to shout") has a transitive use, crida quaucun, "to shout someone", meaning to tell them off, mostly used for children. Like many words from everyday family life, this turn of phrase passed unchanged into regional French, where the verb crier carries the same transitive use, so frequent is it.
